ed, it is not a symptom of liberal ideology. It is a symptom of having a higher education, and thus being better able to plan your life and having a career to take care of. Incidentially, having a higher education also makes it much more likely that you're a liberal atheist. Go figure, eh?

America Alone by Mark Styne chronicles the modern phenomenon of shrinking population of the liberal/post-Christian societies while displaying that the countries with the largest religious citizens are exploding.
I live in a highly liberal State. When we were having our third child, friends were gasping with the notion that we were going to start a baseball team or something.
Now, I'll ask a question that you won't answer:
Can you name any prominent Liberal with a family of more than three children?

I can name some with one or two children, and some religious families with enormous families.
Adrain, you maybe the exception. I was careful with my words. Not all Liberals fit this mold. But, there is certainly a strange coincidence to make one wonder...what is it about the Liberal ideology that impeds children.

ed,

Exactly where are you getting your evidence from??? There is no reason why "Liberals" have any reason not to reproduce, and reproduction shouldn't be based on political or religious beliefs. I know a lot of families who are atheist and reproduce, just as I know a load of liberal families who do the same.

Trying to relate reproduction and your political beliefs is like saying only Republicans eat cheese. It's not true and you cannot make such claims if you want to be taken seriously.

I'm a liberal atheist (so I come under your scrutiny twice) and yet I'm very much in support of starting a family with someone. There is nothing about being liberal or atheist that prevents me from doing that, or says that it is somehow wrong...

It ain't gonna happen. America will continue to become more religious and conservative over the next couple of generations. Why? One reason is: look around you, who are the people that are having large families? It is the religious people and the socially conservatives. The Liberals and Atheists are not reproducing. Of course there are exceptions to this general swipe.

So much for...the urge to get your genes into the next generation.

That's pretty ridiculous. Are other countries like this? I'm planning to go somewhere without this silliness
