“No Intelligance Allowed”

One of the largest groups on Facebook supporting Ben Stein’s new Intelligent Design (a.k.a Creationism) film “Expelled” is called ‘Suporters of Ben Steins Movie - Expelled “No Intelligance Allowed”‘.

Surely evidence against Intelligent Design???

The creator of the group, Chelsy Askren posted this explanation in the news section:

I have tried and tried and THERE IS NO WAY TO CHANGE THE SPELLING. PERIOD. I have followed everyones suggestions and there is NO WAY. If you comment on this site about the spelling i will delete the comment…..if you email me about the spelling i will delete your email……if you dont like the spelling of this group name than you will have to take it up with Facebook themselves. They are the ones that make it so i cannot change the name. There is nothing i can do to change the Spelling of this group….however incompetent that may make me sound to you it is reality……

So other than all the spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors in the above, everything is fine. What really interested me was the insight into the minds of the people who support this film. The following is written in the group description:

Blasphemy Sandwich

CapnOAwesome shows us how to make a sandwich that can only be enjoyed by people who don’t follow the doctrines of Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, or Hinduism. If you are an atheist, you can enjoy this sandwich!

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

If anyone wants the ingredients, there they are:

  • French Bread (because France is a very secular country)
  • Alcohol (for drinking whilst you cook, but it’s also forbidden by Islam)
  • Bacon (forbidden by Islam, Judaism, and Buddhism)
  • Cheese (when used with meat this is forbidden by Judaism)
  • Beef (forbidden by Hinduism and Buddhism)

Finally write “Fuck Jesus” or some other sort of blasphemy against Jesus on the sandwich using mustard or mayo, and you’ve offended Christianity :D

“I Thought I Saw An Atheist”

Expanded from Friendly Atheist, two poems about atheism / atheists.

I thought I saw an atheist, once, walking down the street.
I checked for horns, I checked for tail, I checked for cloven feet;
Began to tremble frightfully—my heart was in my throat—
Then sighed in happy recognition, for ‘twas but a goat.

I thought I saw an atheist, down near a swollen stream
With scaly skin, and blood so cold, I couldn’t breathe to scream!
I looked into his bulging eyes, and prayed “God, grant my wish”
Then laughed in my embarrassment—it only was a fish.

I thought I saw an atheist, with fur and pointed claws,
And wicked teeth for chewing up Judeo-Christian laws,
I ran, and tripped, and fell to earth, then hid behind a log—
It caught me, though, and licked my face—of course, it was a dog.

I thought I saw an atheist, though cleverly disguised
Not giant and reptilian, but human, normal sized,
It looked to be engaging in productive, useful labor;
But no, this was no atheist—this person was my neighbor!

I thought I saw an atheist; in fact, I saw a few!
My neighbor, and the grocer, and the cop, and maybe you!
I even found some in the church, right there beneath the steeple;
It turns out, to my great surprise… that atheists are people.

The second follows the same style, but is “remastered” to follow the recent Rob Sherman/Monique Davis debacle:

Carnival Of The Godless #89

I found about the “Carnival of the Godless” a few weeks ago through various atheist blogs. For those who don’t know, every 2 weeks an atheist blog is chosen to host the carnival. Links are sent to the carnival and the best ones are chosen to feature. On the day of the carnival, the hosting blog posts all the links with descriptions. It’s a nice way to get good blog posts recognised, and for the hosting blog to get a bit of attention.

2 weeks ago, I thought it would be a good idea to submit a blog post of my own. I thought about submitting something controversial (like the one about Muhammad or Jesus), but instead I chose the post that really started the site off; “101 Atheist Quotes“. This post alone accounts for a small percentage of my daily traffic. It has the most comments of any of my posts, the most views (over 65,000 so far), and probably the most trackbacks.

To cut a long story short, it got featured in the carnival: Carnival of the Godless #89
