Being new to the atheosphere I checked out the nexus earlier this week and decided against it. I share the same distaste for the layout and apparent incoherence of the group as a whole. Keep us posted on your “current plan” and what exactly it entails.

I’ve actually tried hard to like Atheist Nexus, but I just don’t. It really doesn’t seem that user-friendly to me. Only time will tell, I suppose. I’ll keep at it.

On what basis did they ban you? Error or not, they must have thought they were within their rights to do so, which presumably means they think they can ban people who ask questions and don’t do as they’re told.

This worries me even more than the original request for donations without details on why it was needed.

If they’re going to ban anyone that disagrees with them, they’re going to end up banning everyone but the sheep… wow, sounds like a religion.

Well, if you are going to be as politically clumsy in your own site as you were in this particular subject, you’re not going to be very successful. :)

I think though that you are probably fast learning about the need of having “tact” in these matters. Remember that atheists are a very wild bunch, who are unwilling to just accept things, and easily get angered at the smallest things they think are being forced upon (your case was just an example of this). So, not only you’ll have technical problems, you’ll have political problems. Huge ones (may Bro Richard tell you about it!).

It seems awkward to me this tag of “brother” and his particular obsession on the quality of christians being able to put their money and action in the community. He’s probably right, but that’s the atheist in me just being cynically skeptical!

Generally, I agree with you on several things about the Nexus site, specially the appalling loaded design (your own blog is much more clean and appealing) and the Ning closed source thing. When I went to the nexus a while ago, I immediately closed the page. It was very bad design and I don’t want to waste my time and bytes with such a mess.
