It is a problem for science because it is a manifestation of the models/theories of natural phenomena which science seeks to understand.

They are not a problem for engineering as *true* singularities do not exist.

However they can be a problem for engineering student taking a course in complex analysis ;-)

… or for that matter for engineers who use residues in their work.
