I know when I became an atheist, I never applied the label "atheist" to myself for years later. You don't really wish you are wrong regarding the Christian God, though, do you? Thomas Paine aptly described the Bible as more the word of a demon than that of a god. I would never want <i>that</i> god to be real. I agree, though, with the general idea of some sort of afterlife, just as long as there are a <a href="http://disco-igno.blogspot.com/2008/09/mailbag-hopeful-afterlife.html" rel="nofollow">few preconditions</a> (such as the ability to die if one so wishes).
