Keep up the good work Adrian. From a senior citizen I feel that I can leave the future to students as you and others to put this world to rights and stop all this hatred that religion inspires.
I believe that open debates are fine but I am afraid that religion incites some to disrupte meetings in stead of trying to learn.from them.

That's good. It means I can keep insulting him. I love how people like you always talk of "hatred", when it's really mockery of an idea. You can't hate what you don't believe exists.

Well, that doesn't really make me feel any less intentionally shut out, but it doesn't sound like there's any way to change his mind. Not too much to be done then. Alright. I won't argue. I'll stop begging. Thanks for trying!

Oh, and I appreciate his suggestion to watch other videos, but I was sort of looking forward to seeing the one and only Atheist Blogger in action, heh.

Message reply from Dan:

I am very sorry that you feel shut out for no reason, it is absolutely not my intention to shut people out from anything. However, this is the first public debate I have ever participated in. I do not enjoy speaking in front of people, it is something I dislike intensely. It really doesn't help me if I know I am being broadcast to a potentially unlimited number of critical people who I don't know. If you really want to learn from a debate on this subject then I would suggest the dozens of amazing and far more professional debates done by Dawkins, Dennett, Harris and Hitchens.

I think that settles that.

If Dan doesn't want people to see him debate, then why is he taking part in something like this at all? I just don't understand. I really hope you can convince him. Does he know that there are people like me who would really like to watch the debate, but can't because we don't live near the event? I'm genuinely interested in this stuff and want to learn more, and this is exactly the kind of thing that I want to see, and I feel like I'm being locked out without reason.

I realize it's not your fault, heh. You're just being respectful. But I still hope that you'll keep insisting on my behalf since I can't really do so myself obviously. Tell him about me! Carry my plea!

I'm sorry you are upset, and I would really love for it to be filmed and put up for the world to see. However it is not my debate to organise, and the decision would be with the CU committee, as long as everyone debating agreed. Since not everyone agrees (and bear in mind that the guy who doesn't want to be filmed is on my debating side) we are stuck. I'll have a talk with Dan (my debating partner) but even if I were able to convince him I'd have to convince the two Christians as well.

Some good news though. Our student group had a meeting today to discuss various group projects, and further debates were a popular idea. If the RHSS ever organise a debate in the future, we will make sure to video it and upload it. :D
