I love the painting analogy. I have been in the antique business for many years. Occasionally a piece will cross my path that is very difficult to identify. I have to go through a specific process of research in order to find out what this thing is, where and when was it made, and by whom? There is another aspect of the antique trade -- fakes, reproductions, fantasy items, and fraud. How do I know that an item is the original or made more recently? I have to investigate these things with a very specific plan or I will not have a valid assessment of the item. Yes there are some items that I have never been able to identify. "WTF is this???"

Ray drops the ball entirely. He provides not only no process of research but no concept of it.
