"With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."

Facebook

The other day I added my facebook profile to the sidebar of the blog, and I’ve had quite a few friend requests from people who subscribe which is always nice. Being an “out of the closet” atheist, I don’t see anything wrong with random people finding me on facebook. It would certainly be nice to chat to some of my blog readers beyond the confines of the comments.

So, please do add me.

I’d also like to thank everyone who reads the blog, especially those who comment and leave me feedback. It really makes a difference on how I view the blog as an aspect of my life, and it is nice to see an increase in subsribers despite the fact I’ve been away from blogging recently :P

Furthermore, I checked my WordPress “Incoming Links” recently and was surprised to see how many other blogs there are that keep me on their blogroll or “My Fave Blogs” lists. It’s a reminder that I’d better actually update my own sometime!

I guess I just felt I needed to say something! Coursework is more or less done, so I’ll be getting back to some kind of schedule very soon. Watch this space.

If Hemant Can Do It, So Can I

Hemant Mehta of Friendly Atheist recently started a new meme where you listed your last 20 emails and what they say about you. I’m starting a new one, only this time it’s with current browser tabs. The reason? I broke my own record today, with 100 tabs open in Firefox.

Taberrific!

Taberrific!

The tabs open were as follows:

What did I learn?

I use Google, Wikipedia, and Facebook way too often, and I need to learn how to use the “close tab” button on Firefox.

What next?

If you are as geeky as me and use a browser with tabs (sorry I.E 6 users) then write a blog post with your tab list. It was fun to see which sites I visit most, and I get to link to my favourite ones!

Are There 250,000 Atheists On Facebook?

A question asked and answered by members of a new Facebook group, aimed at being the opposite of the countless groups like “I bet I can find 1,000,000 Christians”. This group wants to find at least a quarter of a million non-believers on Facebook and unite them in one place.

Currently the group has just over 950 members, and needs people to join up and help them reach their goal. Since there are over 70 million registered users on Facebook, finding 250,000 atheists amongst them should be an easy feat.

If you want to learn more about the group and the guy helping to run it, visit his blog.

In other news, my exams are over. Prepare for a load of updating and information concerning the book club discussion in the next few days!

“No Intelligance Allowed”

One of the largest groups on Facebook supporting Ben Stein’s new Intelligent Design (a.k.a Creationism) film “Expelled” is called ‘Suporters of Ben Steins Movie – Expelled “No Intelligance Allowed”‘.

Surely evidence against Intelligent Design???

The creator of the group, Chelsy Askren posted this explanation in the news section:

I have tried and tried and THERE IS NO WAY TO CHANGE THE SPELLING. PERIOD. I have followed everyones suggestions and there is NO WAY. If you comment on this site about the spelling i will delete the comment…..if you email me about the spelling i will delete your email……if you dont like the spelling of this group name than you will have to take it up with Facebook themselves. They are the ones that make it so i cannot change the name. There is nothing i can do to change the Spelling of this group….however incompetent that may make me sound to you it is reality……

So other than all the spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors in the above, everything is fine. What really interested me was the insight into the minds of the people who support this film. The following is written in the group description:
