A Couple Of Announcements
A reader expressed some concern over my tendency to post some very off-topic things, such as my upcoming series on Linux, and other non-atheistic things. When I registered this blog back in February, I already had a “personal” blog that I updated semi-regularly. As the popularity of this blog grew however, my efforts on my personal blog died out, so I decided to merge the two together; making the entire process easier for me.
Due to the fun nature of my course (programming + robotics!!!), I find many more things to talk about in my personal work, so naturally more posts would be about those kind of topics. Evidently there are people out there who read my blog for the posts concerning atheism (well I am The Atheist Blogger after all), and care very little or not at all for my posts about anything else. I have therefore devised a solution, and pay attention, because this gets tricky.
If you don’t mind reading posts about atheism and my personal exploits, you can continue using my usual feed: http://atheistblogger.com/feed. This feed uses FeedBurner so it reduces the stress on the server (by a little bit at least) and also keeps some nice stats. If you are apathetic about what you read, please use this feed as well!
If you only want to read my posts about atheism (and all related themes), you can use this feed: http://atheistblogger.com/category/general/feed. It doesn’t use FeedBurner and will deliver you all posts that I post under subcategories of “general” (atheism, religion, god, etc.)
If for some reason you only want to read about my personal exploits, or you want to have a separate feed for those posts, you can use the following feed: http://atheistblogger.com/category/personal/feed
Occasionally I will post something globally (such as this post or a related meme) and it will show up everywhere. Hopefully this will sort the problem out!
Just in case people were wondering, the main site will feature every single post, although if you knock of the “/feed” bit from the end of the above urls, you will be able to view the site with the appropriate filter.
Taking A Few Deep Breaths
This is my first blog post since the “Digg Effect” effectively made my site slower than the inner workings of Ray Comfort’s brain. I managed to get over 3,400 votes on Digg, which I think is pretty impressive given the content, and I really must thank everyone who took the time to read the quotes, vote, and leave a nice comment. According to FeedBurner, the people who handle my RSS feeds, I have 622 subscribers now. Hello whoever you are!
If you are new here, you might wish to read the interview that I did for The Atheist Spot. It will at least tell you who I am, why I’m blogging, and what I do when I’m not being caught off-guard by a Digg Effect at 4am.
I didn’t really have much planned to write about today other than on the subject of forums. The blog has its own forum which handles general chat as well as our book club. If you wish to join our book club then you should find all the information on that page. At the start of each month, we vote for a book we want to read the next month (giving people a load of time to get the book). We then discuss the book in an IRC channel, followed by a forum discussion for those who couldn’t make the live discussion.
The book for September is “Biblical Nonsense” by Dr. Jason Long.
I have also just re-launched an atheist orientated forum after some initial mess-ups with the ownership of its predecessor. The new forums has started off well since most of the users of the old one were behind the move. These forums can be found at: http://atheistforums.org
Anyway, now that I have a larger audience I’d better start thinking of stuff to write. Damn you Digg! Making me do some actual work for once! Grrrr….
Edit: Oh yes, and I now have Twitter. You can follow me at: http://twitter.com/AtheistBlogger
The Atheist Blogger Needs You!
I’ve come to the decision to open up this blog a little more, and have a “team” of writers that can produce content for it without my intervention. Essentially, I want people who can either write about topics related to atheism, and/or can scour the web for informative content in the form of other blogs and videos (so a StumbleUpon user would be ideal :D).
I have no set figure for a number of people I want to take on, although I already have 3 writers lined up. So if you have ever felt like writing articles about atheism but didn’t want to keep up a blog, or just think you can supply us with a steady stream of related content, we would love to hear from you.
If you are interested, please leave a comment below giving your religious alignment (atheist/agnostic), and what you could provide this blog with. Your email should be added but hidden from view, and you will be contacted through this (so make sure it is valid!).
