Chicken Girl made me aware of this Times article on Sharia Law in the UK, which is a despicable attempt at getting Sharia law set up for Muslims. The UK is not a Muslim country, it is a secular country, and as such every person should follow the same set of laws. We do not allow Rastafarians to smoke cannabis simply because it is in their religion to do so, so why should it be any different for Muslims? Laws should be made for the good of the people, not for the good of religion. That is why we have legalized abortion, despite the outcry of various Christian groups, and why we scrapped the blasphemy laws.

Pat Condell posted this video on YouTube, highlighting why we shouldn’t bow to Islam.

If you are a citizen of the UK, and you disagree with Sharia Law being imposed in our courts, then please sign this e-petition to our government.

This is going to be the last (I promise!) in my current “series” of conversations with the deluded muslim “Abu”. I have a total of 19 emails from him, the vast majority of which I have responded to. He has however been increasingly rude even though I ask him not to be, and his general level of ignorance has become too much for me to bear, considering I have been spending and hour or more each day replying to each one.

I’ve had enough of him constantly repeating his arguments even though I’ve already explained to him how they don’t work, so I’ve cut off my contact with him. I have no desire to repeat myself, especially as neither side is going to conceed a point. For the last time then, Abu:

Islam is not a religion but a way of life which emcompasses all the prophets and the scriptures (which since have been manipulated and changed).

A way of life that encompasses the teachings of Jesus, Moses, Buddha, the billion or so Hindu gods, the FSM, Michael Travesser?, Joseph Smith, (I could go on). Forget that all these prophets and religions contradict each other, but Abu claims that all these religions were manipulated and changed, and that Islam is the only one true religion…now where have I heard that before?

Even if there are no alternative theories to human evolution from apes there are alternative OPINIONS by opposing scientists. This in itself proves that the theory is not factual and if full of hypothesis still left to be resolved.

As I mentioned before, this is equivalent to someone saying they don’t like rain so it can’t be factual. Opinion has nothing to do with scientific accuracy; if people have evidence that contradicts Evolution, they can submit it (in fact they are encouraged). So far, all evidence that has been submitted has turned out to be wrong in light of investigation.

The Koran was given ad the FINAL scripture to the FINAL prophet (Muhammad) the nation we are currently living under, that of the final prophet will be the last and thus we are fast approaching the end if the earth -doomsday, Armageddon.

I was waiting for a comment about so-called “doomsday”, but as a popular quote says:
“Since the Bible and the church are obviously mistaken in telling us where we came from, how can we trust them to tell us where we are going?”

mountains offer the cool to the earth which it needs to neutralise the general warmth from the sun. You being a science man will agree with me when I say the mountains play an important part on the earth.

The only part mountains play on the Earth is providing some animals with a habitat, and some nice ski resorts for humanity. Abu often seems to get science the wrong way around. Mountains are cold because the Sun heats the Earth up from the ground upwards, they aren’t natural refrigerators of some kind. He used this argument to try and prove why there wasn’t life in other parts of the Solar System, forgetting momentarily that the largest mountain ever discovered is on Mars.

The ovveriding point to your argument about a past species was that their brains have had to develop in order for them to develop better tools. You are unbelievable! The tools used in modern natives tribes in the amazon have changed very little if any.

Rocks -> Sharp Rocks -> Sticks with sharp rocks -> Spears with deadly points -> Bows and Arrows -> Poisonous Arrows -> Poison Darts

I personally think they’ve changed quite a bit. Yes, they haven’t developed guns, but there was (a) no need (they don’t hunt game big enough) and (b) no resources to develop them anyway. The Amazonian tribes are masters of hunting with arrows, darts, spears etc. They have served well for centuries, and I doubt they will change much in the next 1000 years (assuming the tribes still exist in their current habitat).

Before this doomsday there will be the returning of Jesus to fight and defeat the one eyed ‘anti-Christ’ who will endeaveiur the weak in terms of faith with a series of dazzling tricks which he will perform. Jesus will be aided by a person who will cone called imam mehdi who will be born into thus world under his real name that will be Muhammad. This is the future that will occur.

So the Zombie Jesus will return from the dead (again) as some sort of uber-Zombie, and will fight some kind of Cyclops (who I assume will appear at the same time). He will perform magic tricks and impress a load of people (I doubt James Randi would be fooled), and his beautiful assistant will be called “Muhammad” which is lucky because that seems to be a popular name for people and teddy bears at the moment. Of course all this happens after the point where Abu claims Allah will forgive those who want to be forgiven, so this entire façade is pretty much just for show.

This quote is just brilliant:

The unseen that science can’t explain. I tend to refer to witchcraft when I mention the unseen. (voodoo, black magic etc) witchcraft is and has been common since the start of time hence yue hanging of these witches during medieval England. Please don’t say you don’t believe in witchcraft because I’ve seen it with my very eyes! This man who was suffering from witchcraft was sat on the couch, and a witch like voice bellowed out of him spouting off things like ‘I will never leave him’ ‘yes I have put the spell’ and so on. And then after treating it with reading some passages from the Koran the witch increased in her agony begging us to stop reading until after a couple of hours it stopped and the person was back to normal (although we hadnt cured the person of witchcraft, the spell’ remained) ive witnessed many other cases of witchcraft similar to this.

Hahahahahahaha…that’s all I can say. Really.

Well then you can laugh at your near ancestors who included legislatures in witches, who made it a social duty to kill all the witches. Then you deny your ancestors! Have you heard if the voodoo doll? It is one form of witchcraft which involves sticking needles in a doll which us thus reflected into the real human being who was the target.

The test for witchcraft involved putting the accused in a position where they couldn’t possibly end up alive afterwards. Any person who survived this torture was found guilty of witchcraft and burned. I don’t laugh at my ancestors. I am deeply ashamed at my ancestors.

Voodoo dolls have never been used to cause harm on people other than in movies, which is where the entire misconception about them was born. Voodoo dolls are usually used as representations of spirits that you can “call upon” to perform miracles, although this has never been proven either.

Did you know king henry the eighth changed certain passages in the bible and forced due acceptance by the Vatican etc just in order to bed Anne Boleyn!

No he didn’t. He created an entirely new church system based on the same book, just interpreted differently. The Vatican opposed this and never agreed to it (as far as I am aware they never have either).

Now finally, once I told him I remained unconvinced and didn’t want to hear anymore of his arguments:

ok then Adrian today marks a definitive day for you remember the date 19/06/2008. You had a personal warner yet you declined. You succumbed to falsehood you chose no affilliation but atheism a cult which has no substance or deity or anything You believe in chance You contested my arguments with pathetic Arguments of your own which on many occasions I could hardly believe what you had stated. your arrogance AND ignorance veils you as mentioned in the Koran. simply you DIDNT want to believe eventhough you’d admit I never contradicted myself and did defy atheism. Maybe I hurt your pride; I put an end to the atheist theory of yours and your responses has been defensive rather than offensive. Adrian I guess only time will tell who was right me or you. But every hour that ticks off your life is bringing you nearer to eternal doom. Hellfire forever and ever and ever a life of circles. There will be no respite and nor will you be punished in he’ll to cleanse yourself for the ultimate paradise. God says in the koran ‘enjoy yourself for a while’ and then I’m sorry to say Adrian endless repercussions.

Abu if you are reading, I will never admit that you didn’t contradict yourself because you did, and you didn’t defy atheism since you can’t prove god does exist anymore than I can prove he doesn’t. My responses were defensive since you were attacking my belief, although I did attack yours on multiple occasions so I would hardly call my arguments purely defensive anyway.

So that wraps this conversation with a very deluded person up. If anyone else wants to try and convert me to their religion, I have a contact form where you can submit your first attempt, and if I am interested in what you have to say I will respond. Please note that I hold the right to post anything you say on this site, but no details other than your first name will be used in reference (so use a fake name if you wish).

A few days ago I published some quotes from a Muslim who has contacted me to try and convert me away from atheism. I’ve continued the conversation with him just to see where it goes next, and in all honesty it is pretty entertaining. Every time I try to end it, he just says something even more outrageous that I feel compelled to email back and get him to explain his views. So again, for your enjoyment, the deluded stylings of Abu:

If human evolution was taking place why fir example haven’t the people of Antarctica (eskimos) over a thousands of years evolved by growing body hair like the polar bears so it naturally keeps them warm.

Erm…because they already had clothes to keep them warm? Since short-haired Eskimos don’t die out there isn’t an over-abundance of long-haired genes going around the Eskimo community. I guess we’d better demand they all live naked from now on and see what happens a million years down the line…perhaps not.

Science is concrete evidence whilst a theory is just a theory open to opinions. So please let me differentiate the difference between science and scientific theory because homosexuality, darwins (human) theory are scientific THEORIES.

Yet another misunderstanding of the difference between scientific theory and scientific fact. Scientific fact is an observation that we know happens (i.e. Evolution), scientific theory is our understanding of that fact (i.e.Theory of Evolution). A theory isn’t open to any opinions at all. People might like or hate a theory, but that doesn’t have any affect on whether it is true or not…

Also, I love how homosexuality is now a theory. That’s a big blow to the gay community…”I’m sorry guys, but you can’t PROVE you really are gay…”

You don’t seem to the bit knowledgeable on science.

This coming from the guy who claims he got an “A” in science at G.C.S.E and yet makes such claims as “the planets are floating” and “scientists have proved the soul exists”. It’s remarkable he knows how to send an email let alone switch on his computer.

For example their aren’t two scientific school of thoughts on how rain forms. Now this is a fact. Therefore human evolution can’t be a scuence as their us an alternative opinion.

I don’t know about that. I personally think rain is the tears of the Flying Spaghetti Monster who is crying as he looks down at a increasingly non-pirate world. We can perform a test to prove this as well; simply get everyone in the world to dress up as a pirate and let the ensuing drought kill all life…then again perhaps not.

As I pointed out earlier, just because someone has a negative opinion on Evolution doesn’t mean it’s not true. That’s like me saying that since I don’t like the theory of gravity I can fly like a bird.

The ancient homosexuals were not homosexuals as we know of them today. They preferred men for sexual pleasure bit still obliged to their duty of satisfying women and producing offspring.

I made the point about homosexuality not being a recent social phenomenon and he responded with this. As far as I know, there are quite a few homosexuals who prefer men for sexual pleasure and yet still marry and have children because they believe in family. How exactly is this any different?

Our earth is perfect in the fact that the earth has two contradicting extreme temperatures on the earth from the extreme cold of Russia and the north pole to the warmth of
the equator influenced countries. Therefore we couldn’t survive in Venus eventhough it was a a few million km away ad the warmer climate would not allow the pkanet to neutralise with any cooler elements. Therefore humans or life in general (plants etc) would not survive.

Some of you might be aware of the so called “habitable zone” of our solar system which encompasses a large area and includes Earth. It is the reason why this planet can support life. There is a general concensus among scientists that since Venus is roughly the same size as Earth, if it were further away from the Sun and within the habitable zone, it would have spawned life. In fact there is evidence to suggest that billions of years ago Venus may have been a hospitable world when our Sun was much younger and the atmosphere was more suited.

Of course Abu thinks that only Earth has North and South poles, and extreme conditions even though these depend on the curvature of the Earth and the tilt of it’s axis. Like most planets, Venus is tilted on it’s axis (by about half the amount Earth is) and so temperatures do vary.

Is it rational to perform sex which if you analse to its bare bones it is actually a lewd act. Is that irrational.

Since when did our method of reproduction become a lewd act? I obviously missed that announcement. I reckon he’s correct though; people who have his beliefs should be encouraged not to breed…it would be better for the rest of humanity.

Firstly, let me apologize for yet another absence on the blog. I’ve only just worked out how to post-date articles so it shouldn’t happen again in the future. During the past 2 weeks I’ve finished university (first year anyway), passed all my exams (yay!), gone on holiday, got badly sunburnt, and then had to pack my entire room into a transit van and move back home.

Onto the topic of this article. I was contacted a week ago by a muslim named “Abu” who opened his email like so:

right in this moment in time I’d love to lose my rag bang the computer and
scream infernally! But I’d like to alter your skewed views on life and the
pointless, deity-less movement that is atheism. Why verily only the arrogant,
proud, the incessently stupid believe in atheism…

He outlined what he thought were good arguments against atheism, including the “There are no atheists in foxholes” argument and Pascal’s wager (both easily refutable). The ongoing discussion has covered about 6 emails now and they are a pain to read all at once, so I’ve chosen the best bits for you:

Islam is all the religions in one. We believe in Jesus, Moses and all he bibles and scriptures given to them bible, torah etc.
…
There is no exclusitivity in Islam. Islam encompasses all religionns.

Of course religions like Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Sikhism, Pastafarianism don’t count…

Scientifically you will find the water of both oceans (atlantic and pacific) can not overlap due to the difference in water types and the fact that crusts and plates ensures this.

Yup, apparently there is some kind of magical barrier that separates the waters of every ocean. Forget that the Earth really only has one ocean and the others are all man-designated areas based mainly on the continents they surround. Forget that the Pacific plate is actually smaller than the Pacific Ocean, and the Pacific Ocean actually rests on about 4 plates (Pacific, Nazca, Australian, North American).

Now il move onto one of the fundamental lie if your belief – darwins theory of evolution. Let me ask you this – if monkeys are continually evolving into humans over a long period of time (thousand, millions of years) then why aren’t their currnyly any monkeys which are 50% evolved quarter involved? There is a distict difference between monkeys and humans!

I don’t know how many times I’ll have to shout “No evolutionist has ever said we evolved from monkeys!” at creationists before they actually listen to me. After I gave a detailed explanation of our Evolution to him he responded with:

you spoke absolute nonsense and plain bullshit about this so wel move on because your argument doesn’t deserve justification.

I can just see the thought process in his brain: too..much….information….must…resort to…insults and…lousy…excuses…

Some have mentioned the invention of the ‘hydrogen’ car this would be incompatible you use in the earth for a long period if time because hydrogen based chemicals released into the atmosphere would diffuse and affect the pollution levels ti such an extent to which the earth would be unbreathable.

Hydrogen + Oxygen + HEAT => DEATH + POLLUTION apparently. I always knew those lab experiments I did when I was 12 were dangerous…damn you school! Of course those of you who actually know how Hydrogen cars work will understand that the products of the above reaction are HEAT (which is converted into Electricity) and WATER.

Cars running on crude oil are naturally compatible with The atmosphere. Cars with oil generate the release of nitrogen which has no major impact on the earth as earth atmosphere equivalates nitrogen
to be 76%. I don’t know the exact percentage.

The only bit of science he got spot on. Unfortunately this only works with perfect combustion of petrol, and so far we haven’t got an engine that does it perfectly, hence all the carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and hydrocarbons which ARE dangerous to the atmosphere…

Scientists and consensus agrees on the existence of the soul. What determines death? You say the heart stops, brain switches off WRONG. What determines death is the soul departing.

Islamic scientists might say the soul exists, but when I asked him for a peer-reviewed document that came to this conclusion it took him 3 emails ignoring my request and then finally a “do a google search” response which he promised would return a load of accounts from people with PhD’s. Of course I know that a PhD means absolutely nothing in the scientific world unless you have a peer-reviewed article to go with it (just look at Kent Hovind).

Here is a fantastic quote though:

Have you ever been to anyones deathbed? Just when death is imminent. You can determine the soul has left the body as the human body has one last minor struggle before the soul leaves the nose causing the nose to bend and become crooked. It is clearly visible and thus the soul
departs.

Sadly I was at my grandmothers side when she died 3 years ago, and I saw no such bending of the nose. Her last breath was pretty much a normal sigh, but then she did have breathing tubes going into her nose, so perhaps the soul went through one of them? When I told him I had never heard of such an incident being reported he assured me that if the mouth is open the soul exits through that. I reckon I’ll perform a test when I’m on my deathbed: Tape up my mouth, nostrils, ears maybe, and see how my “soul” likes that. Heck, if death only occurs when the soul leaves the body like he claims, I might be able to live forever! (albeit uncomfortably)

For the finale, one last attack of Evolution:

Darwin used his pathetic theory to exploit the anti church trend the country was falling into. Due to fresh controversies about the bible many people were adipting the stance of renegade against popular beliefs. Darwin merely instigated the bandwagon as it were. Look let’s please drop this Darwin debarcle. You gave a drab argument about orangatans. The simple fact is is that this specie or any other specie is not any closer to taking the final form of a human.

I’m sure he spent 5 years on a boat so he could have an alibi when he was plotting to take down religion. It’s all a conspiracy I tell you! The finches were in on it as well!

I was planning to watch the controversial movie “Fitna” on LiveLeak.com and write a summary / report on it, but as I settled down to do so, I found a lot of reports from various other blogs saying that the film had been removed from quite a few places on the web. On LiveLeak itself (on the homepage itself) the following message is displayed:

Following threats to our staff of a very serious nature, and some ill informed reports from certain corners of the British media that could directly lead to the harm of some of our staff, Liveleak.com has been left with no other choice but to remove Fitna from our servers.
This is a sad day for freedom of speech on the net but we have to place the safety and well being of our staff above all else. We would like to thank the thousands of people, from all backgrounds and religions, who gave us their support. They realized LiveLeak.com is a vehicle for many opinions and not just for the support of one.
Perhaps there is still hope that this situation may produce a discussion that could benefit and educate all of us as to how we can accept one anothers culture.
We stood for what we believe in, the ability to be heard, but in the end the price was too high.

I haven’t watched the movie yet (although I plan to after I write this), but if it’s anything like what I have heard about it, I’m honestly not that surprised. After the whole fiasco over one image of Muhammad with a bomb for a turban, I dread to think what repercussions will occur for a film that is purposefully against Islam.

Not that I think that such films shouldn’t be made, quite the contrary. I think the only way we twill ever get to a state of true global secularism is by continually showing these radicals that we will never give up. Once they finally realize that their threats and actions are not going to be tolerated, and that they should respect people’s opinions different to their own, maybe then we can have a sensible discussion over the whole matter. Acting like idiotic immature children (which they are) isn’t going to get them anywhere.

So, in case you want to see the film I’m going to link to it here. I found the two parts (10 minute and 7 minute respectively) on YouTube, although whether it stays up will be another thing.

I’m taking a short break from writing lengthy articles so I thought I would write some small pieces on issues that annoy me. One of the major things I find when browsing religious websites / forums is atheism being referred to as a “religion”, and I object to this for some very good reasons:

The definition of “religion” according to Dictionary.com is

a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.

Atheism has no set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, we simply do not believe in a God, and follow what science tells us about the world around us. One can claim that all scientific deductions break down to a core “belief”, but everything in science is backed up with evidence to suggest that belief, and so it is well founded. Religious beliefs are wholly different, and the majority depend entirely on faith, not evidence.

Theism isn’t a religion, therefore atheism cannot be either. The definition of theism is “the belief in the existence of one or more divinities or deities”. Granted, most religions in the world are based on the idea of theism, and their members are described as “theists”, but theism itself does not dictate a set of beliefs for people to follow. Indeed, it can be said that theism is one of that very same “set” of beliefs that defines religion. To put it in simple terms, we can say that Christians, Jews, Muslims, etc. are all theists, but not vice versa (unless I come across a Christian Jew Muslim, etc. hybrid to prove me wrong). Theism is an attribute of people with a belief in a God, just as atheism is an attribute of people who do not believe in a God, nothing more.

If we were to call atheism a religion we would have to start calling the disbelief in the Loch Ness Monster a religion as well, and the disbelief in a celestial teapot on top of that (to quote the well loved Bertrand Russell /Richard Dawkins analogy). In fact, we would have to call every single disbelief in anything a “religion”, which means there would be an infinite number of the things, and the entire concept of religion would be destroyed in an instant. It is far simpler to define a religion as a concrete belief structure, i.e. a belief in something, not a disbelief in something. There are far more things that we could possibly disbelieve than we could believe.

I am sure a lot of people will argue that (in respect to the final point) atheism can be defined as the “belief that there is no God” and not the “disbelief in God”, but surely the two are the same? If a person says they are an atheist, then they have come to the conclusion that God is not in any realm of existence, and so believing in “no God” and disbelieving in “a God” are the same thing.

If you think about it, the same thing could be applied to any religion. Muslims both belief in the existence of Allah, and disbelief in the non-existence of Allah. A Muslim has come to the conclusion that Allah exists, and there are two way of expressing this. However, it is far easier to say that they believe in the existence of Allah, since the other is a double negative and is harder to say in normal conversation.

Suffice to say, the phrase “belief that there is no God” is almost as bad (in a literal context) as the double negative phrase “disbelief in no God”, and whichever way you are inclined to think, neither has any affect on the pure and simple truth that atheism does not break down to a set of beliefs, and therefore, like theism, is not a religion.

Finally, I should point out that just as theism is the basis for Christianity and Islam, atheism is the basis for Buddhism, which can be described as a religion (although that is a totally different topic).

Hopefully this article has provided some insight into the reasons why I personally do not think atheism is a religion. Please be invited to criticise / comment, and above all, suggest ideas for other small articles you want me to cover.
